You brought the work in, built the relationships, kept it moving and grew the business. Well done you firstly, because that matters.
Then the business grew and you brought people in. And pretty quickly you realised they are never going to do what you did in the way you did it. And they should not have to.
That is usually the point where sales needs proper structure.
Now sales cannot just sit in your head anymore. You’ve got people involved. You’ve got meetings that may or may not be useful. You’ve got targets. You’ve got expectations.
And often, you’ve got a gap between what you know the business needs and what is actually happening in the team.
That is not unusual. It is just the point where sales needs growing up a bit inside the business.
Not because the team is useless. Not because you’ve built it wrong. But because what worked when it all sat with you does not work in the same way once a team is involved.
That is usually the point where sales needs proper structure. The founder’s instincts, expectations and standards haven’t yet been translated into a sales structure that the wider team can consistently follow and deliver against.
That is the work.
Having grown up in a family business and later built and led my own, I understand how difficult it can be to step back from something you’ve spent years building.
You know what good looks like. But helping others see it, own it and deliver it consistently requires a different approach.
My role is to bring an experienced commercial perspective into the business, helping identify what’s working, what needs tightening and where stronger accountability can improve performance.
Clients often tell me they feel braver after working with me because they gain greater clarity around what’s actually holding the business back and fresh perspectives on how to move forward with confidence.
